Obituary of Betty Silkworth
Betty Jean Silkworth, 76, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie. Mrs. Silkworth was employed as a Secretary for Union Cemetery in Hyde Park. She had also been employed as a Secretary in the Engineering Dept. at Alpha Laval. She was a Past President of the Traver Road Elementary School PTA, a School Sunday Teacher at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, a past member of the Town of Poughkeepsie Republican Committee and the Rochdale Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Born in Poughkeepsie, on April 2, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Jacob C. Robinson and Helen D. Taylor Sheeley . She was a graduate of the Arlington High School Class of 1950. On January 30, 1951 at the Washington Street Methodist Church, she married George Samuel Silkworth. Mr. Silkworth predeceased his wife on October 6, 1990. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, George S. and Shawn Silkworth of Jackson Corners, NY; Craig and Linda Silkworth of Pleasant Valley; her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Steven Dewey of Salt Point; her son and daughter-in--law, Brian and Diane Silkworth of Salt Point, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren, William Silkworth, Jessie Silkworth, Wade Silkworth and his wife, Kelly; Taylor Dewey, Georgie Dewey and Melanie Silkworth and her companion, Carlos Reyes; a great-grandson Brandon Michael Reyes and a brother, Jacob Clifford Robinson of Hudson. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Jacquelyn O'Hearn. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 25, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Ave., Poughkeepsie. Memorial donations may be made to the Rochdale Fire Dept., Route 44, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
