Obituary of Josephine Smith

Josephine A. Smith, 69, a Town of Poughkeepsie resident since 1975, formerly of Staten Island, died Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. Ms. Smith was a house manager for Wassaic Developmental Center, retiring in 2005. She was a member of St. Martin de Porres Church. Ms. Smith loved to travel, go on cruises and loved her family and grandkids. Born Jan. 7, 1940 in Manhattan, she was the daughter of the late Nora Rottner. She was a graduate of Manhattan schools and attended Dutchess Community College. Survivors include her son, David Smith of Poughkeepsie; her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Scott McMahon of Poughkeepsie; her son, Daniel Smith of Poughkeepsie; grandchildren, David Jr. and Scott and Amanda McMahon; and her sister, Wanda Rains of Texas. She was predeceased by her son, William Smith in 1970. Calling hours will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, March 26, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
