Obituary of Violet Smith

Violet May Smith, 78, of the City of Poughkeepsie, died Sunday, August 10, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker, a member of the Seniors's Club of Poughkeepsie, and loved to play bingo and travel. Born August 28, 1929 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of Frank and Gladys Hopkins Simpson. On November 17, 1959 in the Town of Hyde Park, she married John D. Smith, who predeceased her on June 11, 1971. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Linda Sue and Richard Macintosh of Canton, OH; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Glen Dlugach of Bartlett, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Cheryl Smith of Canton, OH; son and daughter-inlaw, Kyle and Tina Smith of Marlboro, NY; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her brother, Joseph Simpson of Hudson; sister, Virginia Perry of Poughkeepsie; sister, Betty Mary of Hudson; she was predeceased by three brothers, Frank, Victor and Vincent Simpson. Calling hours will be from 6pm to 8pm, Tuesday, August 12, at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
