Obituary of Francis Spilbor
Francis H. Spilbor, 9 0, died peacefully at home on Sunday, October 26, 2008. Born on September 21, 1918, he was the son of the late Francis P . Spilbor and Catherine C. Rugar. An area resident all his life, he graduated from Arlington High School. On May 15, 1942, he married the late Mary Catherine Krom. He worked for the Delaval Separator Co. for over 40 years, retiring in 1984. During W orld War ll, he served his country as a Sgt. First Class in the Army Air Corp. in the Pacific. An avid outdoorsman until recent years, he was a founding member of the former Nimrod Gun Club and a life member of Chestnut Ridge Rod and Gun Club. A life-long gardener starting as a smallboy on the Wallace farm, he continued until his death along with his hobby of controlling the invading woodchuck population He was d early loved and will be missed by many. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Cheryl Rose and her husband, Kenneth of Poughkeepsie; his loving son, Gary Spilbor and his wife, Elaine of Chesapeake, VA, his granddaughter Jeannine Rose of St Marys, GA; his grandsons, Noel Spilbor and his wife, Michelle o f Summerville, SC and Shaun Spilbor of Chesapeake, VA; three greatgrandchildren, Brandon and B rianna Spilbor of Summerville, SC; and Elijah Spilbor of Chesapeake VA; his brother Walter Spilbor and his wife Leola o f Hyde Park, two sisters, Virginia Anson of Poughkeepsie and Katherine Trowbridge of Ninety Six, SC and his trusted friend of over 20 years Edna Harcourt of Highland. He was predeceased by his brother, Clarence Spilbor and his sister Edith Storms. Visiting hours will be at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY on Wednesday October 29, 2008 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday October 30, 2008 at 9:00am at the Funeral Home with burial to follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Conservation Awareness Foundation, Inc., c/o The Federation of Dutchess County Fish and Game Clubs, Inc., PO Box 3201, Poughkeepsie, NY . Donations should be earmarked for the "Get Hooked on Fishing " weekend at Morgan Lake.
