Obituary of Alexander Tervenski

Alexander W. Tervenski, 94, of Poughkeepsie, died Friday, July 4, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on January 2, 1914 to the late Stephen Czerwinski and Mary Heresniak Czerwinski. He married Louise Francese on November 30, 1937 at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Poughkeepsie, where they made their home and resided together for 70 years. Louise predeceased him on November 10, 2007. In 1976, he retired from the Hudson River Psychiatric Hospital, where he worked as a head cook for 40 years. He was a member of the St. Jude League and numerous senior citizen organizations. In addition to his career as a cook, Alexander dedicated his time and affection to his family as a loving husband and father, and a proud grandfather and great grandfather. The flash of his bright smile and the twinkle in his eyes will be forever remembered and sorely missed. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lysko and husband, Robert of Poughkeepsie; his son, Stephen Tervenski and wife, Dorothy of Wingdale; grandchildren, Shawn Tervenski, Karen (Lysko) Warden and husband, Marc, Lisa (Lysko) Szalaji and husband, Andrew, Gregg Lysko and wife, Pauline, Scott Lysko and wife, Joie, and Tracey Lysko; great grandchildren, Jenna and Michael Opitz, David, Laura, Theresa, and Steven Warden, James, Mary, Kathryn, Jordan, Alexander and Tyler Lysko. Many nieces and nephews also survive him. Besides his wife, Louise, he is predeceased by a son, Alexander Tervenski; sisters, Mary Koziol, Helen Benson and Katherine Nicodemus; brothers, William, John, Louis, Frank and Edward Tervenski. The family would like to express their gratitude to Doris Kodom, whose care helped bring great joy to Alexander during the past several months. Donations in his honor can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2008 from 4-7pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 10am at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, 185 Hudsonview Drive, Poughkeepsie. Father James Garisto will be the officiant. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
