Obituary of Barbara Tryon

Barbara Ruth Sebeth Tryon of Poughkeepsie passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at home. Born on July 25, 1934 in Poughkeepsie, NY, she was the daughter of Ruth Wager Sebeth and John Ralph Phillips. She was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. Barbara worked for Dutchess Bank and Banker’s Trust. She later was assistant director of the Vassar Warner Home, Men’s Division, and served for over ten years as the secretary of the United Methodist Church of Wappingers. She was a lifelong member of the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church where she was active in the various women’s groups and has served on various committees. She has been a member of Cascade-Vassar Chapter #347, Order of the Eastern Star, Wappingers Falls, since 1966. She served as Matron of the Chapter several times. She also twice served as District Deputy Grand Matron of the Columbia-Dutchess-Putnam District Order of the Eastern Star of the State of New York. She serves on the Board of Advocates of the Vassar-Warner Home. She has been a part of the Mid-Hudson Tres Dias and Vida Nueva communities for many years. Additionally, Barbara was a Girl Scout Leader for 30 years. On September 14, 1958 in Poughkeepsie, she married Paul Jacob Tryon who predeceased her on July 26, 2007. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Jane Barbara Brooker and her son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey Paul and Patricia Tryon, all of Poughkeepsie. She is also survived by her two grandsons, Garrett Michael Brooker and Patrick Michael Tryon. Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 21, 2011 from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. At 7:30pm during visitation there will be an Eastern Star Service. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 10:00am at the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church. Barbara has requested that there be no flowers. Donations may be made to the Memorial Committee of Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church.
