Obituary of Helen Vaselekos
Helen Michos Vaselekos, a resident of Poughkeepsie since 1950, formerly of Tarrytown and Mount Vernon, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009. Mrs. Vaselekos retired from Vassar College after 20 years of service. She was the secretary in the Religion Department. She was a member of the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church and the Ladies Philoptochos Society. Born Aug. 6, 1924 in Tarrytown, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Terzakis Michos. She married Gus Vaselekos in 1948, in Mount Vernon. She and her husband opened the Sit "N" Chat Luncheonette (1950-1959) with her brother and sister-in-law, Soteros "Soc" and Evelyn Michos. In addition to her husband, she is also survived by her daughter and sons-in-law, Janet and Sidney Eisig and Thomas Smith; her grandchildren, Samantha Smith and Justin and Alexandra Eisig; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving daughter, Maria Smith; her brothers, Soteros "Soc" Michos and Charles Michos; and her sister, Espe Ambrose. Calling hours will be 6-9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 27, at the Kimisis Greed Orthodox Church. Burial will be in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church.
