Obituary of William White

William J. White Sr., 83, a life long area resident, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at home. Mr. White was Head of Security at Dutchess Community College, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1302, past Commissioner of the Fairview Fire Department and he was the Elections Inspector of the Dutchess County Board of Elections. Mr. White served in the United States Marie Corps. Born Sept. 6, 1925 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of Howard and Sadie Haight White. He graduated from Arlington High School. On June 24, 1977, in Trinity United Methodist Church, he married Catherine J. Burt. Mrs. White survives at home. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his son, William J. White Jr. of Texas; his daughter and son-inlaw, Melody and Brian McCavarra of Poughkeepsie; his daughter, Cheryl White of Florida; his son, Stephen White; his daughter, Roxanne Buckley of Texas; his stepson and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Kathleen Surico of Poughkeepsie; stepson, Mark C. Surico of Poughkeepsie; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Sally Ann and Michael McGlade of Kingston; stepson and daughter-in-law, Allen and Victoria Surico of Oregon; stepson, Rocco Surico; stepson, Matt Surico; two sisters Darlys Geisler and Virginia Palmer of Florida and several grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons and a stepson, Mark White, Scott White and William Surico. Calling hours will be 5-8 p.m,. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the funeral home with Rev. Thompson Ghee officiating.
