Obituary of Florence King
Florence A. "Flo" King, 84, of Poughkeepsie died Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at home. Born on February 25, 1927 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of the late Abram and Dorothy Masten Christiana. Flo had attended Poughkeepsie Schools and was a homemaker and retired from the Wappingers Central School District. On February 29, 1948 she married Andrew King at St. Peter's Church in Poughkeepsie. Her husband predeceased her on January 19, 2001. Flo was a past Girl Scout leader and was also involved with the Boy Scouts as a den mother. She loved to travel, was an avid reader and a self-taught seamstress. In addition to her husband who predeceased her, she was also predeceased by her sister Barbara Gallagher and her brother Edward Christiana. Flo is survived by her children: Patricia Tompkins of Poughkeepsie, NY, Gregory King (wife Jean) of Wappingers, Janice Stankus (husband Kenneth of Hopewell, Theresa King of Belleview, Nebraska and Barbara MacIsaac (husband Edward) of Poughkeepsie. In addition she is survived by ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Their home always served as a welcome to family and friends. Holidays, birthdays and special events were celebrated at the King's where company often dined on Flo's infamous sauce and meatballs. We will truly miss Mom and Grandma but we take comfort that she is now at peace and is with those special people who have gone before her, especially her beloved Andy. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012, from 4:00-8:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 10:00am at St. Peter's Cemetery.
