Obituary of J. Denning

J. Harold Denning, 83, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Pleasant Valley, NY passed away January 23rd, 2012 after a long illness. He was born in Poughkeepsie, on September 16, 1928, the son of the late Harold F. and Mary (Dugan) Denning. He was a graduate of Arlington High School where he was a star football athlete and had many hobbies and interests including camping, hunting, fishing and golf. His six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren brought much joy in to his life. He was a self employed contractor for many years as well as working for some time with Harold F. Denning and Sons and also DeGroot Builders, Inc. He was a life member of the Rochdale Fire House. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, his daughter Diane Skinner (Brian) of Syracuse, NY, daughter Paula Philipbar (Michael) of Salt Point, NY, brothers Robert of Edinburg, NY; Thomas of W. Palm Beach, FL and sister Janet Helmeyer (Robert) of Hadley, NY as well as six grandchildren: Melissa Ritchie (Preston) of Webster, NY; Tracy Brady (Joseph) of Troy, NY; Kevin (Julie) Skinner of Canastota, NY; Brianne (Juan) Salazar of N. Syracuse, NY; and Mallory and Hillary Philipbar of Salt Point, NY; and six great-grandchildren Anabella and Colin Ritchie, Samantha and Tara Brady, Katrina Salazar and Brendon Skinner and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wife of 29 years Shirley Miller Denning in 1980 and his second wife Anne Smith Denning in 1989. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 2-4 PM at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Private burial services will be held in St. Peter's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2 Jefferson Plaza, Ste. 102, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
