Obituary of Stephen Gyseck
Stephen J. Gyscek, 90, of Hyde Park, NY died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 3, 2012. A life long resident, born in Poughkeepsie, NY on December 12, 1921, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Theresa Kovacs Gyscek. Mr. Gyscek attended Poughkeepsie Schools and served in the Army-Air Force from 1942-1945 and was stationed in England. On May 13, 1951 he married Catherine J. Conte at Mt. Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie, NY and she survives at home. He worked in Quality Control at IBM in Poughkeepsie for 36 years and retired in 1985. Mr. Gyscek was a 59 year member of the American Legion Post 37, the IBM Quarter Century Club and was a member of St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie. He loved to bowl and golf, was a life-long Yankee fan and enjoyed his yearly vacation in the Outer Banks. He also played in the IBM Softball League for many years and was especially proud of his grandchildren. In addition to his wife Catherine, Mr. Gyscek is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Christine and Thomas Lease of Staatsburg, NY, son Steve Gyscek of Hyde Park, NY, daughter Catherine Gyscek of Lake Wylie, SC, daughter and partner Carol Gyscek and Laura Morse of Moretown, VT, son and partner Mark Gyscek and Kevin Strauss of Highland, NY and his daughter-in-law Laurie Gyscek of Pleasant Valley, NY. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Kristen Moore and her husband Dan, Heather Lease and Stevie Gyscek. Additionally he is survived by his sister Rita Kondor of Hyde Park, NY and Sue Gyscek of Hyde Park, NY and many nieces and nephews and Jerry Neri, his nephew who he was very fond of. Mr. Gyscek was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice for their care and compassion. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 5:00-8:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 10:00am at St. Mary's Church, Poughkeepsie and burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
