Obituary of Ronald Goldstein

Mr. Ronald M. Goldstein, 83, a long time resident of Poughkeepsie, died at the Castle Point, VA Hospital on April 24, 2012 after a short illness. Mr. Goldstein died a peaceful death, surrounded by his loving nephew and nieces, whom he always thought of as his own children. Mr. Goldstein was born in Newburgh, NY on April 11, 1929 and was the son of the late Daisy Masten Goldstein and Morris Goldstein. He was a graduate of The Newburgh Free Academy. Mr. Goldstein was a veteran having served with the 969th Engineer Battalion, Third Army, United States Army. While in service, Mr. Goldstein served in both The Continental United States and Austria. After being honorably discharged, Mr. Goldstein moved to Poughkeepsie, where he was employed for several years at The IBM Corporation. Leaving IBM, he was employed by The Western Publishing Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1983 as manager of the Prep Department. After retiring from Western, Mr. Goldstein was employed for several years as Vice President of The Fairview Litho Corp. On a Sunday, April 12, 1953 Mr. Goldstein married the former Helen G. Bocchino at a Mass of Holy Matrimony at The Church of the Holy Trinity, Poughkeepsie, NY. Mrs. Goldstein predeceased him on May 11, 2010. He is survived by a sister Mrs. Louise Hargraves, Newburgh, NY, a brother and sister-in-law Mr. & Mrs. William Goldstein of Rockville, MD, a cousin, Mrs. Charlotte Gillespie of New Windsor, NY, whom he often referred to "as his other sister", a brother and sister-in-law Mr. & Mrs. Adam Nowik of Hyde Park, NY, and sister-in-law Mrs. Yolanda Grebos of Linwood, NJ. Mr. Goldstein also had several nephews and nieces; Mr. & Mrs. Lyman Goon, Ellicott City, MD, Mr. & Mrs. Mark Goldstein of Damascus, MD, Mr. & Mrs. Brian Goldstein, Mount Airy, MD, Mr. & Mrs. Adam Nowik, Jr. of Poughkeepsie, NY, Mr. & Mrs. Carl Walz of Conway, SC, Mr. & Mrs. Angelo Ronsani of Hyde Park, NY and Mrs. Barbara Rotella of Poughkeepsie, NY. He also had many grand nephews and nieces, notable Miss Rachel Ronsani of Valatie, NY and his working "Buddy" and companion Anthony Ronsani of Hyde Park, NY. Mr. Goldstein was active in several organizations. He was a member and served two terms as President of The Retirees of Western. He was a life member and served 5 terms as President of The Dutchess County Sportsmen's Association, "the oldest hunting and fishing club in Dutchess County". He was also a life member of the local chapter No. 275 of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge. He was very proud of having earned his private pilots license, and his idea of a pleasant Saturday morning would be to take his nephew and nieces flying. Calling hours will be held at The Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 from 4:00-8:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 10:00am at The Church of the Holy Trinity. Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
