Obituary of John Buccellato
John R. Buccellato died April 23, 2012 at home. John was 91 years old. He was born September 19, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY. A first-generation American, he was the son of Anthony and Celeste Nicastro Buccellato.
John proudly served his country during WW-II in the US Army 18th Infantry, 1st Division from 1940 - 1945. He served in four campaigns: Normandy, Tunisia, Algeria, and Sicily. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon with four Bronze Battle Stars.
John founded the Hollywood Window Company in Poughkeepsie in 1948; it remains a family-run business.
John was a devout Roman Catholic. He was an active member of the Exchange Club for many decades. He also held membership in the Elks Club.
John married Elsye Reubens in 1949; Elsye predeceased him in 1979. He married Katherine Baratta in 1981; Katherine predeceased him in 1982. John was also predeceased by his cherished companion of thirty years, Martha (Ginny) VanWagenen.
John is survived by his four children: Pamela Ann Birch and her husband Terrence of Birmingham, England, Christine Bruce and her husband Robert of Lake Katrine, Paul Buccellato and his fiancé Peggy Happel of Poughkeepsie, and Marianne Pizza and her husband Nicholas of Milton. John is survived by ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
John was predeceased by his brothers: Father Sebastian Buccellato and Dominick Buccellato.
Visitation will be 4pm to 8pm Monday May 14, 2012 at the Timothy Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am Tuesday May 15, 2012 at St. Mary's Church, Hamilton Street, Poughkeepsie with burial to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
