Obituary of Anna Miller

Anna Duga Miller, 97, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away peacefully at Victory Lake Nursing Home on April 30, 2012. Previously Anna lived in the Bronx, NY and Honolulu, HA. She was born the daughter of Samuel Duga and Susanna Medved Duga on January 22, 1915 in the Bronx, NY. In July 1950 she married Patrick Henry Thomas Miller "Henry" and they made their home in Honolulu Hawaii. They travelled to many countries together, France being their favorite and visited often. When they separated, Henry a journalist/photographer continued to send Anna many beautiful pictures from places he travelled. She kept each and every one of them. . Anna had many interests and of them her favorite was ballet. She studied ballet starting a very young age and was very passionate about it. She also enjoyed art, photography, swimming, horses and her family. Anna was especially close to her mother Susanna whom she cared for in the Bronx while working at Montefiore Hospital and studying at Fordham University. She graduated Magna Cum Laude on June 1, 1974. She continued at Montefiore Hospital after graduation as a computer analyst. Anna's love for horses made her appreciate books by Dick Francis, her favorite author among many, whose writing focused on various aspects of horses. She read each and every single one of his books. Anna was an avid reader. She was also an avid swimmer and won many awards. When her mother passed away in May of 1980, Anna moved to the Hudson Valley living for short periods of time in Carmel, Wappingers Falls and then settled in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1988. Anna's parents immigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia and settled in the Bronx where she and her brother John were born and grew up. Anna was predeceased by her father Samuel Duga, her beloved mother Susanna Duga and older brother John Duga. Many thanks to the Victory Lake nursing staff and residents that made Anna feel at home for the last two years to enjoy the friendships she developed and enjoyed there.
