Obituary of Elaine Toczydlowski

Elaine Savage Brown Toczydlowski, of LaGrange, NY died on 6/21/12 after a two year struggle to recover from surgery. She was the daughter of Emery and Jennie Duprey Savage of Blue Mountain Lake, NY, the youngest of five children born, on July 2, 1937. She was christened in the United Methodist Church of Blue Mtn Lake. Her father and mother as well as siblings June DeFilippo, Jean Purcell, Robert Savage and Carol Brackley all predeceased her, as well as two nephews, Leonard and George McCord. Elaine graduated valedictorian from Indian Lake Central school in 1955. She attended the State University of Albany before deciding to fine-tune her studies in business at Mohawk Valley Technical School in Utica NY, where she graduated salutatorian in 1959. She married Harry Wesley Brown of LaGrange, NY on April 24, 1960. She was widowed on January 12, 1962. She married Joseph Toczydlowski of Wallingford, CT in 1981. Joseph predeceased her in November, 1987. Elaine was employed as a corporate bookkeeper for Marshall and Sterling Insurance (Poughkeepsie, NY) and MTL Insurance (New Haven, CT) for over 35 years combined. She was an avid sportswoman, enjoying ice skating, skiing, hiking, camping, swimming, boating and tennis. In recent years she enjoyed being involved on bowling and golf leagues, reading, doing Sudoku and crossword puzzles. She also served as a volunteer for the XP Society for children who can't be in daylight for over ten years. She enjoyed her family, friends, pets, flowers and welcomed all into her home and heart. Elaine is survived by her three daughters, Caren (Dan) Mahar of Columbia County, NY, Linda (Brian) Kelly and Patricia Hawley (Butch Smith) of Dutchess County, NY as well as grandchildren Teresa, Danny, Brendan, Katie and Patrick Mahar, Brian, Shannon, and Sean Kelly and Bryer Hawley. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Calling hours will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 12601 on Friday June 29, 2012. A celebration of Christian Faith will be held at the Arlington Reformed Church on Raymond Ave in Poughkeepsie on Saturday June 30, 2012, beginning at11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at the Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church Cemetery on Stringham Rd in LaGrange, NY.
