Obituary of Otto Schaedlich

Colonel Otto A. Schaedlich was born in NYC on September 24, 1927 to the late Otto and Mary Schaedlich and died on September 24, 2012. On April 24, 1955 he married the former Marguerite Sprenger in the First Lutheran Church of Poughkeepsie by the Rev. Adam Schreiber. He is survived by his wife Marguerite and their three children: Eric Schaedlich of Clinton Corners, NY; Carol Savage and her husband Michael of Baldwin Harbor, NY; Kristine Kass and her husband James of Plymouth, MA; six loving grandchildren Andrea & Nicole Schaedlich, Kelly & Brian Savage and Kirsten & Karl Kass. Otto was a member of the Elks Lodge #275, the Arlington American Post #1302, the Poughkeepsie Lodge of F&A Masons #266, Military Association for Uniformed Services, the Mid Hudson Chapter Military Officers Association of America and the First Lutheran Church of Poughkeepsie. He accepted Early Retirement from IBM Poughkeepsie in 1985 after 35 years where he served as Project and Staff Engineer in Manufacturing Engineering in Fishkill and Poughkeepsie. Otto had an extensive Military Career: He enlisted in the US Army as a private in 1945 with Basic Training at Ft. Sill, OK. He was a graduate of Indiana Technical College, Ft. Wayne, Indiana, also the Military Police School, Ft. Gordon, Georgia and the Command & General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. His highest Service Awards are: Federal Meritorious Service Medal, NYS Meritorious Service Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. His career included assignments as ARNG Recon & Survey Officer Btry B 156 FABN 1953-54; Assistant XO Platoon Leader Btry C 156 FABN 1955-56; NRNG Exec. Officer Btry C 156 FABN 1956-57; USAR Exec. Officer Btry A 302 FABN 77th Div 1957-59; ARNG Exec. Officer Btry A 1 HOW Bn 156 Arty 1960; Commander Btry B 1 HOW Bn 156 Arty 1960-63; Commander HQ Btry 2 Bn 156 Arty 1963-65; Communications Officer 2 Bn 156 Arty 1965-66; Excess HHC 1 Bn 156 Arty 1968-71; Exec. Officer 1Bn 156 Arty 1971-73; Commander 1 Bn 156 Arty 1973-77; G-3 Command & Control HQ 1978-79; Commander 209 Field Arty Brigade, Rochester, NY 1979-81. Col. Schaedlich was placed on the Retired List in 1982 and retired in 1987. In his retirement years, Otto and Marguerite traveled extensively with the Elder-Hostel and Interhostel Programs. They especially enjoyed the many International travels with MOAA friends and visiting relatives in Germany. As per Colonel Schaedlich's request, there will be no visiting hours.
