Obituary of John Takacs
John M. Takacs, age 92, of Poughkeepsie, died Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at home. John was born June 24, 1920 in Erie, PA. He is the son of the late Steve and the late Anna (Galambos)Takacs. He married Rose L Rigitano on June 30, 1946 at Mt. Carmel Church Poughkeepsie, she predeceased him on April 28, 2011.
John was a local resident most of his life. He attended Arlington Schools and he served in the United States Army during World War II in the 544th Engineers Boat and Shore Regiment. John served during the Luzon New Guinea and Northern Solomons. He received the following decorations and citations, American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one Star and the WWII Victory Medal. John worked for the Idema Construction Company for over 27 years before retiring and was also retired from local 1000 laborers union.
John loved to joke with everyone, he was known for his sense of humor, he loved to work around his home and also loved to do jigsaw puzzles.
He is survived by ; son and daughter in-law, Mark and Eileen Takacs of Poughkeepsie, NY; son and daughter in-law, Michael and Debbie Takacs of Staatsburg, NY; daughter and son in-law, Diane and Jeff Reiser of Poughkeepsie, NY. John is also survived by his grandchildren Marc Takacs and his wife Andrea, Scott Takacs and his wife Nicole, Sarah Crispell and her husband Greg, Samuel Takacs and his girlfriend Janice Fassell, Kimberly Kane and her husband Greg and Kelly Reiser, great grandchildren Avery Crispell, Ethan Kane, Brody Michael Takacs, Valentina Marie Takacs and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his three brothers, Joe, Peter and Steve and his four sisters, Ann, Helen, Betty and Julie.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:30 am on Friday, October 19, 2012 at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church, Mount Carmel Place, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
Calling hours will be Friday, October 19 from 9am to 11am at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.
