Obituary of Albert J. Knapp
Albert J. Knapp, 92, of the town of Poughkeepsie, died on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Lutheran Care Center. Born on April 25, 1920 in Livingston Manor, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Beulah Ellis Knapp. Previously of Middletown, NY, Al had been a local resident for 59 years. He had attended schools in Middletown, NY and he served in the United States Navy during WWII. On October 27, 1940, Al married Anna B. Shuback in Florida, NY and his wife predeceased him on January 31, 2005. Al retired as a chef for IBM in Poughkeepsie. He was a member of the American Legion #1302 and was a member of St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie. He loved baking, cooking and gardening and all his friends referred to him as "Big Al". Al is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Edward Ireland of Poughkeepsie, his son George Knapp of Hyde Park and his son and daughter-in-law Ronald and Chris Knapp of Poughkeepsie. Also surviving are his grandchildren Keith Livingston (Dianna), Jacqueline Folmsbee (Harold), Tara Baker (Shane), James Knapp, Jessica Knapp (John Betz), Patrick Knapp, Craig DeCiutiis and Michael DeCiutiis, as well as his great-grandchildren Zackary, Travis, Joseph, Jillian, Griffin, Grace, Sophie, Shayna, Anna, Joshua and Kayleigh. His brother Kenneth Knapp also survives in Middletown, NY. In addition to his wife, Al was predeceased by his brothers and sisters Alwyn, Gladys, Julia, Erma and Regina and his daughter-in-law Paula Knapp on June 28, 2011. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 4-7pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 5, 2012 at 10:00am at St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie. Burial will Military Honors will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
