Obituary of Margaret Davie
Margaret Mitchell Davie, 85, formerly of Fort Plain, died peacefully December 13, 2012, in the arms of her devoted husband and surrounded by her family, after a long illness. She will be forever missed by the love of her life, husband Donald, whom she was married to for more than 61 years. He adoringly cared for and protected her "through sickness and in health". She leaves behind her beloved children, Donann Davie Creedon, San Francisco; Diane Davie, Westlake, OH; Donald Davie Jr. (Lucy), Austin, TX; and Megan and Bruce Chipkin , Poughkeepsie, NY. Margaret and Don have resided in Poughkeepsie over the past several years and were very grateful for the constant, loving care of their wonderful son-in-law, Bruce daughter, Meg and their children.
Margaret was a kind soul who was a devoted wife, extraordinary mom and wonderful grandmother whose eyes lit up whenever her amazing grandchildren visited-- Michaela Creedon, San Francisco, CA; Allyssa and Reece Davie, Austin, TX; and Alexandra, Benjamin and Matthew Chipkin, Poughkeepsie, NY. She is also survived by her faithful and devoted sisters and brother-in-law; Dorothy Jean Mitchell, Utica, NY and Nancy and Joseph Devaney , New Hartford, NY. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Hazel and Joseph Mitchell and siblings Robert, Helen and Maryann - and many of her dearest friends. She is also survived by loving nieces, nephews and wonderful caregivers especially, Donna and Nicola.
Margaret was an angel and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and nurse who was always putting others needs before her own. Until her final years, she would constantly be sending off a card or letter to family and friends to stay in touch or remember them for a special occasion. She was known for her scrumptious baking skills and a daily consumption of all flavors of ice cream.
Margaret was very proud to be a Registered Nurse and graduate of the Faxton School of Nursing in Utica, NY, class of 1948. It was during this time that she meant her beloved husband and was forever grateful to her classmate and his cousin, Marge Legg. Margaret was a woman of great faith and a parishioner of St. James Catholic Church in Fort Plain for many years. After raising her children, she returned to work and was employed as an RN at Arkell Hall, Canajoharie, NY where she loved the residents every bit as much as they all loved her and her wonderful caring devotion.
Calling hours will be 2-5pm Sunday, December 16, at Timothy Doyle Funeral Home, Poughkeepsie, NY.
