Obituary of Gary Peters

Gary N. Peters, 76 passed away Friday, January 4, 2013 at Saint Francis Hospital. Born in Endicott, NY on July 5, 1936 he was a son of William Peters and Antoinette Della Penta. Gary moved to Poughkeepsie in 1948 and was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School in 1953. Gary served in the US Air Force in the Strategic Air Command from1954-1958. He worked for IBM Poughkeepsie for 37 years beginning in 1958. He held a variety of upper level management positions and was extremely well liked by his employees and peers. In 1956 Gary married his wife, Janice L. Diehl. He was an active member of the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church. He served on various administrative committees, enjoyed cooking for church events and leading Bible study groups. He loved children, and especially enjoyed time spent with the children of his church family. They were very special to him. He enjoyed reading and TV and was an avid Mets and Giants fan. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind. Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Jan, and two sons Christopher and Mark as well as his daughter in law Teresa. He is also survived by his sister Wilma Schab, as well as various nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Arline Carrington and brother William Peters. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 9th from 3pm to 7pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church, 3281 New Hackensack Rd., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 on Thursday, January 10th at 10am. Burial will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery.
