Obituary of Catherine Marcojohn DiGregorio
Catherine Teresa (Kay) Marcojohn DiGregorio, died January 17, 2013 at the Hospice of Charleston. Born in Wappingers Falls on March 27, 1920, she was the daughter of Concetta Marie Ferranto and Felixantonio (William) Marcojohn.
On August 23, 1942 at St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls she married Anthony J. DiGregorio Jr. Anthony predeceased Catherine on February 22, 1985.
Catherine was educated at St. Mary's School and Wappingers High School.
Catherine was a member of the Children of Mary Society of Wappingers Falls; she was previously a parishioner at St. Mary's in Wappingers and a parishioner at St. Martin dePorres. Catherine was a past treasurer of the Mother's Guild. She was a volunteer at the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Alzheimer's Association and many other organizations including R.S.V.P and Mt Carmel's St Ann's and St. Rita's Societies.
Catherine was in the ladies auxiliary at the Italian Center, the Mid-Hudson Retirees Club and she also was the past secretary of the Town of Poughkeepsie's Club 60III which began in 1993. Catherine was also a Co-Leader for many years for the Office of the Aging at the South Road Civic Center in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
Catherine was a champion fighting for a Senior Center in the Town of Poughkeepsie, with her frequent articles appearing in the newspaper, urging the Town to be kind to the growing number of Senior Citizens without a center of their own.
Catherine is survived by; her daughter Antonia Marie DiGregorio Ryerson and her husband John of Mt Pleasant, SC., daughter Josephine DiGregorio Stainkamp of Fishkill, NY., daughter In-Law Ann Cumming DiGregorio of Stormville, NY., grandchildren, Anthony DiGregorio IV, Allison DiGregorio, David John Ryerson, Michele Ryerson Watson and her husband Coy, Jill Stainkamp Castoe and her husband Todd and Leigh Stainkamp and her partner William Herchenroder. Catherine is also survived by her great grandchildren Dustin, Desiree and Dakota Ryerson, Caleb and Landon Watson and Rebecca Herchenroder, sister Helen Iapichino, her in-laws Vincent and Tillie DiGregorio, Adeline Proctor, Joan Laffin and numorous,nieces and nephews and cousins.
Catherine was predeceased by her son Anthony Butch DiGregorio III, son in-law Alfred Joseph Stainkamp, sisters Madeleine Illustrato, Virginia Sammarco, Antoinette Minnetto, Jennie DiZillo, Mary Mascolino, Rose DeLeno and brothers Thomas Marcojohn and Frank and Anthony Long.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday January 23, 2013 from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603. A funeral mass will be held 10am Thursday January 24, 2013 at St. Martin dePorres Church with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls New York.
