Obituary of Leonard Gauthier

Leonard N. Gauthier, of Unionvale, died Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born on January 20, 1949 in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Norman and Catherine Layer Gauthier. He had been a local resident since 1971. Leonard attended Pace University and St. John's University. On September 1, 1971 he married Carol Connelly, who was from Beacon, NY, and his wife predeceased him October 2004. Leonard had worked for Alamo EMS as an EMT, the Town of Unionvale as a Constable and recently worked at Transcare as an EMT. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 4065 in Fishkill, was a volunteer at the town of Unionvale Fire Department and he volunteered at the Holy Trinity Food Pantry where he attended, as well as the Blessed Kateri R. C. Church. Leonard enjoyed the Mets and Jets and he loved animals, especially his pet Newfoundland "Bear". He is survived by his son Charles L. Gauthier of Hudson, NY, his sister Linda Phelan of Poughkeepsie, his niece and her husband Kelly and Lee Nelson of Kentucky and niece Donna Gauthier of Glendale, NY. In addition to his wife Carol who predeceased him, Leonard was also predeceased by his brother Norman Gauthier, Jr., and his sister-in-law Shirley Gauthier. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 5:00 - 8:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 10:00am at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Jct., NY. Burial will follow at St. Denis Cemetery.
