Obituary of Lois Sherow

Lois Helen Sherow, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, New York. She was born Lois Helen Garrison at home in Butterville, New York on April 14, 1931 to Arthur and Helen Garrison. She later moved to Poughkeepsie, NY, where she lived for most of her life. After her graduation from Poughkeepsie High School in 1949, she was subsequently employed by the Mohonk Mountain House, Smith Brothers Manufacturing and Western Printing. On December 2, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, Royal Sherow, with whom she shared many happy years before his death in June 2009. Lois enjoyed time with her family and many friends, and people share fond memories of her, Royal, and the "Sherow House". Lois enjoyed bowling, and rarely missed her weekly bowling with her league of friends, the "Donut Dunkers". For many years, she traveled with her husband, often including their children, and in later years, their granddaughter, to New Hampshire and Vermont, where they would fish and shop for antiques. Lois is survived by her children, Nancy Bailey of Esopus, New York; Jeff Sherow and Gary Sherow, both of Poughkeepsie, New York; her beloved granddaughter Emily Sherow, several nieces and nephews, in-laws, and many beloved friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her brothers, Cornelius and Arthur Garrison, both of Poughkeepsie. Calling hours are on Friday, April 26th from 4-6 p.m. at the Timothy Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue in Poughkeepsie. Internment will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the LaGrange Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ulster County S.P.C.A in Kingston, New York.
