Obituary of Gary Oswald
Gary K. Oswald, 66, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away at his home in the presence of his loved ones on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. Born in Manhattan, NY on April 20, 1947, he was the son of the late John and Marion Oswald. Gary was a resident of Dutchess County for 35 years. After 25 years of service, he retired from IBM on October 31, 2012. He was raised in Queens, NY, where he became an Eagle Scout. He went on to serve in the United States Air Force from October 1966-October 1970. On December 8, 1972, he married the love of his life, Patricia (Griffin) Oswald, who lovingly cared for him during his courageous, hard-fought battle with cancer. Along with his wife, Gary is survived by his daughters, Debra Gander and husband George, from Hyde Park, NY; and Rachel Craparo and husband Thomas, from Poughkeepsie, NY. In addition, his legacy lives on through his three beloved grandchildren, Jonathan Oswald, Lyndsey Gander, and Trevor Gander. Gary also leaves behind his brother, Brian Oswald and wife Antonia; sister-in-law, Marianne Hume, and husband Michael; nephew Robert Oswald, niece Lucia Oswald; as well as many cousins. His faithful poodle Molly was always by his side. Gary was pre-deceased by his sister, Sharon Oswald, and grandson, Jack Matthew Craparo. An avid outdoorsman, Gary enjoyed hunting, and always looked forward to his next deep-sea fishing trip with family and friends. In addition, he loved rooting for the New York Mets, and has a brick inscribed with his name at Citi Field.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A memorial service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
