Obituary of Viola Pelsuo
Viola M. Peluso died peacefully at home on July 14, 2013; she was 100 years old. Born in Brooklyn, New York on March 29, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Frank Scotti Sr. and the late Mary D'Andrea Scotti. Viola was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and, in 1935, she graduated from the College of New Rochelle where she majored in French. During her college years, she was member of the hiking club, the tennis club, and she performed in plays put on by the French Club.
On July 4, 1943, at Mt. Carmel Church she married John R. Peluso; he predeceased her on June 18, 1992.
Viola was a local resident most of her life previously of Brooklyn, NY. After college, she worked as a social worker for Dutchess County specifically working with the elderly. When she retired, she had been a substitute teacher for Poughkeepsie School District for fifteen years. She was deeply loved by her family and so many others throughout her life. She brought great joy and laughter to many with her sense of humor.
Viola is survived by her daughter Jean Zimmerman of Magnolia, Delaware; granddaughter Jill Zimmerman and her husband Peter Jensen of Ann Arbor, MI; and grandson Matthew Zimmerman of New York City. Viola is also survived by a great granddaughter Grace Jensen of Ann Arbor, MI; and a sister Marion Poluzzi of Poughkeepsie. Viola was predeceased by her son, John F. Peluso in 2010; her sister Carmela Scotti and also by her five brothers Louis, William, Frank, Paul, and Robert Scotti. She is also survived by many many nieces and nephews, and her sister-in-law Regina Peluse.
Calling hours will be Wednesday July 17, 2013 from 9:30am to 10:30am at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation at 11:00am St Mary's Church Poughkeepsie, with burial at St Peters Cemetery.
