Obituary of Louis DuPilka
Louis M. (Joe) DuPilka, age 86, of Poughkeepsie, died Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Castle Point Veterans Hospital, Beacon, NY. Mr. DuPilka was born December 16, 1926 in Poughkeepsie, NY. He is the son of the late Michael and the late Margaret (Galvin) DuPilka. On June 2, 1946, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Fiorillo formerly of Hudson, NY at Holy Trinity Church, Poughkeepsie. Mrs. DuPilka survives at home.
Louis exemplified the true American Patriot who came to the aid of his country serving in the military on multiple occasions. In 1944, he served in the South Pacific Theatre in World War II. He completed his tour of combat duty aboard USS LST 555 ("The Nickel"). In 1966, at the age of 40, Louis volunteered for service in the Vietnam War. He completed his tour of combat duty as a First Class Builder in the USN Seabees, Mobile Construction Battalion No. 6 (USN MCB-6).
Louis was a self-employed mason contractor for most of his life having worked at many large commercial construction projects throughout Dutchess County.
He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Sharon Marie in 1947 and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his son, Richard and his wife Jill, of Hyde Park, his three daughters, Karen Aposporos and her husband George of Poughkeepsie, Renee Germano and her husband Thomas of Hyde Park, and Joann Alexander of LaGrange. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, one great grandson and several nieces and nephews.
Louis was a member of the American Legion Lafayette Post and a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Disabled American Veterans organization.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Calling hours will be held, Thursday, August 15 from 4pm to 8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. A graveside service will be held 10:00 am on Friday, August 16, 2013 at St. Peters Cemetery, Salt Point Turnpike, Poughkeepsie, NY with Military Honors.
