Obituary of George Demakos

George E. Demakos, age 82, of Poughkeepsie, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at home in Poughkeepsie. George was born May 2, 1931 in Sparta, Greece . He is the son of the late Efstratios and the late Efthimia (Theofilakou) Demakos. He married Mary Vanikiotis on October 5, 1958 at Queens, NY. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Vanikiotis on September 21, 2009. George moved from Sparta Greece to Montreal Canada in 1949 and then moved to New York in 1955. George was a member of the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church in Poughkeepsie, NY. George's family was the most important part of his life, he enjoyed being with them as often as possible. He is survived by his daughter and son in-law, Ephy and Andy Sakell of Hopewell Junction, NY; son Tommy Demakos of Poughkeepsie, NY; son and daughter in-law, Strates and Kimberly Demakos of Poughkeepsie, NY; son and daughter in-law, Billy and Mary Demakos of Marvin, NC; granddaughter and her husband, Lisa and Patrick Conell; grandson, Thanos Sakell; grandson, George Demakos; grandson, Nicholis Demakos; step granddaughter, Shannon Demakos; step grandson, Charlie Demakos; great grandson, Declan Thomas Conell and sister: Maria Manis. George was predeceased by his brother, Louis, sister, Katherine and brother, Peter. The funeral will be held 11:30am Thursday October 10, 2013 at Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 South Grand Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie. Calling hours will be Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from 5pm to 8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.
