Obituary of Martha Smith

Martha Esther Zufall Smith, age 85, entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 13, 2013, at Vassar Brothers Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 27, 1928 in Irvington, New Jersey, to Merle E. Zufall and Anna Gertrude B. Zufall. After graduating from Cornell University in 1949 with a bachelor of arts in economics, she took a job at Central Hudson. In Poughkeepsie, she met Richard M. Smith; they were married in 1953 and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, John Zufall. She is survived by her husband and their children, son William M. Smith of Cottekill, daughter Caroline A. Smith of Clintondale, daughter Suzanne A. Smith-Ramos of Highland; and their granddaughter Victoria S. Ramos. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Robert B. Zufall and his wife Kay of Denville NJ; her sister, Alice G. Fellenzer and her husband Archie of Middletown NY; and numerous nieces and nephews. In accordance with her wishes, there are no calling hours or services. Burial will be in the spring in the family plot in Bethel NY. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, Dutchess Outreach, or Habitat for Humanity.
