Obituary of Irene Dourdis
Irene Dourdis died Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Wingate of Dutchess, one week shy of her 92nd birthday. Born on January 1, 1922 in Niciros, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Calliope Panthelethou Nicolis. Irene married Harry Dourdis on September 8, 1946 in Newburgh, NY and he predeceased her on March 26, 2004. Irene had worked at Schatz Federal Bearing as a manufacturing piece worker and then worked as a dining room attendant at the Hudson River State Hospital for 28 years, retiring on March 31, 1983. She had also studied cosmetology and was an accomplished seamstress. Irene was a member of the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church serving many executive board positions with Daughters of Penelope and the Ladies' Philoptochos
Society. She recently received a certificate for 50 years of service from Philoptochos. She was also a member of the church choir. Irene is survived by her son William Dourdis and his wife JoAnn of Poughkeepsie; daughters Zoe C. Falley of Huntington Beach, CA; Angela Dourdis and her partner Lisa McVey of Poughkeepsie; brother-in-law Peter Dourdis of Poughkeepsie; grandchildren Alithea Melious and her husband Dan, Laurissa Agosta and her husband Eric, Stephen Randolph and his wife Lindsay and Calli Falley and boyfriend James Chaves. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren Dalton and Jack Melious, Eric and Anabelle Agosta and Ethan Randolph as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Harry who predeceased her, she was also predeceased by her siblings Costa Nicolis, Nick Nicolis, Rodopi Halaris, a son-in-law Michael Falley, and two grandchildren Kristine Randolph and Ana Falley. Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 4-8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 10:00am at Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 S. Grand Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY with Father Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
