Obituary of Atkins Green

Atkins J. " Cappy " Green, age 91, of Poughkeepsie, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at home in Poughkeepsie. Atkins Green ( Cappy ) affectionally known as "Unc" was the 5th of 6 children.Born October 15, 1922 in Washington, DC. He is the son of the late Atkins and the Mabel (Jefferson) Green. They moved to Charleston SC, where he was educated along with his siblings, Edward, Christine, Richardine, Mildred and Lilian. Atkins married Mildred L. Gourdine on June 14, 1945, she predeceased him on June 10, 1982. Atkins was employed as a manager at Consumers in the Bronx. He was a local resident since 1999 previously of the Bronx. Atkins loved his wife who was his childhood sweetheart, as well as his family. Photography was his passion and hobbie, he was an avid Met's and Yankee's fan and chicken was his favorite food. Atkins and Mildred had no children but were blessed with a host of nieces and nephews both grand and great. Calling hours will be Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 1pm to 2pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. The funeral will be held 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 11, 2014 after the calling hour.
