Obituary of John Harris

John V. " Jack " Harris, Jr., age 69, of Poughkeepsie, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. Jack was born September 12, 1944 in Poughkeepsie, NY. He is the son of the late John V. and the late Margaret (Kane) Harris Sr.. He married Diane L. Moro on April 25, 1970 at St Stanislaus Church Pleasant Valley, New York. Jack served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war. He was employed by the Town of Poughkeepsie as Deputy Highway Superintendent retiring in 2001. Jack was also the President of John E. Harris Well Drilling Inc. He was a member of Poughkeepsie Elk's Lodge#275, American Legion Post 1302, K of C 304 4th Degree VFW Post 70 and the Forty and Eight.. Jack was a local resident all his life. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church. Jack loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his friends and family. Jack was very creative and mechanically gifted and was always doing some type of building project. Jack is survived by his wife: Diane L.(Moro) Harris of Poughkeepsie, New York; daughter Heather Harris of Boston, MA; sister Ellen Giampaolo and her husband Robert Centeno of Hollywood, Florida and several nieces and nephews. Jack was also predeceased by his brothers, James Harris and Robert Harris. Calling hours will be held Tuesday March 4, 2014 from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603 A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will be Calvary Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, New York in the spring.. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Legion Post 1302, 55 Overlook Road Poughkeepsie, New York 12603..
