Obituary of Philip Simmons
Philip D. Simmons Sr. passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the Pines Nursing Home in Poughkeepsie, NY. Phillip was born in the Town of North East on February 5, 1927 to the late Edith Woodin Simmons and Charles N. Simmons Sr. On May 27, 1946 Philip married Geraldine Dembicki. Geraldine survives at home.
Philip was a life member of the 110 Rod and Gun Club in Verbank, the Salmon River Rod and Gun Club in Fort Corrington, the Poughkeepsie Yacht Club, the Pirate Canoe Club, and the Polish American Club. Philip served in the Navy Seabees during WWII. He worked in construction and home repair for over 45 years. Philip was predeceased in life by his brothers Charles Jr., William H. Paul E. and Donald F. Simmons.
In addition to his wife, Philip is survived by his children Philip D. Simmons Jr. and his wife Penny of Philmont, NY; Constance Pennisi and husband Joseph of Hyde Park, NY; Diane Smith and husband Wesley of Clinton Hollow, NY and Audrey Keller and husband Eric of Pleasant Valley, NY. He is survived by 6 grandchildren Philip D. Simmons III, Ann Marie Decker, Sandra Jean Pennisi, Andrew Simmons, Ria Schultz and Samantha Keller. 8 great grandchildren Stephanie Noble , Joseph Evans, Justin Decker, Danielle Evans, Nicholas Decker, Jovan Simmons, Joseph Simmons and Alida Simmons. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will take place Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 4pm-8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Funeral services will take place Friday, April 4, 2014 at 11am at the Chapel at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
