Obituary of Elizabeth Skelly
Elizabeth " Betty " Skelly 83 of Hyde Park, New York, died on April 5, 2014 at the Lake Wales Medical Center Lake Wales Florida. Born in Poughkeepsie, New York on March 9, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Paul and the late Mary Delaney Wermuth.
Betty was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and Dutchess Community College. In 1984 Betty retired from the Hudson River State Hospital where she worked as a Social Worker.
On April 10, 1950 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Betty married Edmund J. Skelly Sr. Edmund predeceased Betty on December 15, 1995.
Betty was a local resident all her life, she was a member of St Peter's Parish, the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 1466, Polish American Club and the Hudson River State Hospital Boat Club.
Betty loved to bowl, knitting and leather work. She had a great since of humor was very outgoing and full of life. Betty was known as GRANDMA to all who knew her.
Betty is survived by her son Edmund J. Skelly Jr. and his wife Gail of Lanexa, VA., daughter Mary D'Angelo and her husband Drew of Hyde Park, New York, companion John Canning of Hyde Park, New York, grandchildren Sarah Keatley and her husband Shannon, Dannette Skelly and Nichole D'Angelo. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, Carter Keatley, Cassie Keatley, Abbigail Kent, Makayla Layne and her sister Patty Ann Walsh of Florida. Betty was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
Calling hours will be held on Friday April 11, 2014 from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am on Saturday April 12, 2014 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish 299 Hudson View Drive Poughkeepsie, New York 12601. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by, Father James A. Garisto.
Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery Rte 9G Hyde Park, New York.
Memorial donations can be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital Memphis Tennessee.
