Obituary of Richard J Rugar
Richard J. Rugar, 78, passed away May 5, 2014 at home in Poughkeepsie. A lifetime resident, he was born in Poughkeepsie on November 17, 1935 to Edward and Gladys Lee Rugar. On April 25, 1965 he married Karen Light at the Arlington Reformed Church. She survives at home. Richard was employed as Warehouse Supervisor for Arnoff Moving and Storage until his retirement in 2002. He was an expert rifleman and sharpshooter and served in the National Guard. He was a member of Arlington Reformed Church and the Poughkeepsie Elks Lodge. Richard was also a lifetime member of the Arlington Fire District Engine 1. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and walking. Along with his wife he is survived by his daughters Pam (Nick) Lamonica of Hyde Park, NY and Paula Rugar; grandchildren Christine, Briana, Kayla, Evan and "Little Buddy" Jacob; brothers John Rugar, Ferris Rugar, George Rugar, Raymond Rugar, Thomas Rugar, David Rugar and his sister Christine Rugar. He was predeceased by his 6 brothers and 4 sisters. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 11, 2014 from 4:00-8:00pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Services will be held on Monday, May 12, 2014 at 10:00am in the funeral home. Burial with a Military Service and Honors will follow at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Mausoleum.
