Obituary of Joan Koloski
Joan Koloski, a longtime resident of Poughkeepsie, died at Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie on July 6, 2014. The daughter of Stella and Joseph Kocon, she was born in Irvington, NJ on June 15, 1930. On June 5th, 1954 she was married to Eugene L. Koloski M.D., who predeceased her in 2000.
Joan is survived by son Eugene R. Koloski, M.D. of Poughkeepsie and Christine Doering, son Peter Koloski and his wife Dana of Chesapeake, VA, daughter Nina Koloski of Wappingers Falls, daughter Marya Nowalis and her husband David of Phoenixville, PA, and 2 grandchildren, Philip Koloski of Richmond, VA and Max Koloski of Blacksburg, VA. A Graduate of Upsala College in East Orange, NJ, Joan came to Poughkeepsie in 1953 to be Assistant to the Director of Halls at Vassar College. She had a keen interest in gourmet cooking and nutrition. Joan spent much of her adult life as an advocate for autistic children and served on the board of Greystone Programs for the developmentally disabled. She had great admiration and respect for caregivers of the developmentally disabled and of her autistic daughter Nina. Calling hours will be at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home at 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie on Friday, July 11th from 5 to 8 PM. On Saturday, July 12th , after a 10 AM prayer at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Joan will be buried at St. Peter's Cemetery (171 Salt Point Turnpike) in Poughkeepsie.
Joan's family wishes to thank the excellent staff at the Lutheran Care Center who provided fine and compassionate care for their mother in the closing months of her life.
