Obituary of Shirley Germano

Shirley A. Germano, age 78, of Poughkeepsie, died Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center of Poughkeepsie, NY. Mrs. Germano was born October 14, 1935 in White Lake, New York. She is the daughter of George and Nelly (White) Fisher. She married Richard A. Germano Sr. on April 25, 1954 at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel. As a young girl, Shirley showed her independent spirit by moving from Monticello to Poughkeepsie, where she worked as a telephone operator for New York Telephone. She was soon spotted and courted by her handsome husband, Richard, the love of her life. The two were inseparable for 60 years, managing rental properties and raising a family together. Shirley was a warm and generous woman to all who knew her, always ready to lend support and love to the many friends who sought her out. But her family was her life. She was so proud of her children, whom she doted on, and who in turn doted on her. Nothing meant more to her than having her family around her, and they were all with her through her illness and at the last. She is survived by her husband: Richard A. Germano Sr. of Poughkeepsie, NY.; daughter and son In-law, Sandra A. and Steven Dolce of Stanfordville, NY; son and daughter In-law, Richard A, Jr. and Anita Germano of Hyde Park, NY.;son: Allan G. Germano of Poughkeepsie, NY; sister: Patricia Fisher of FL and her brother: George Fisher of FL; grandchildren, Marissa Germano, Michael Polito, Kai Germano, Treya Germano, daughter in-law Kathleen Germano and she was predeceased by her Sister, Minnie Newkirk. Calling hours will be Thursday, July 24 from 4pm to 8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.
