Obituary of THELMA KUCHENMEISTER

Thelma J. Kuchenmeister, 89, of LaGrangeville, NY, died on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center after a brief illness. Born at home in Poughkeepsie, NY on January 1, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Richard D. and Lois (Hill) King. Thelma grew up in Fairview and graduated from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in 1942. She received her RN degree from Vassar Brothers School of Nursing in 1945. After her graduation she worked at hospitals in Florida, Michigan, Long Island, and White Plains, New York. She returned to Poughkeepsie where she worked on the pediatrics ward at Vassar Brothers Hospital. She later worked as the RN for Dr. Ann B. Wright and Dr. Eleanor Kane. On April 8, 1949 she married the love of her life, Robert Kuchenmeister, who predeceased her on August 27, 2012. They shared 63 wonderful years together, making happy family memories: bowling, boating, camping, and snowmobiling. Traveling the country together in their retirement years brought them much joy. Thelma is survived by her daughters, Joan Kuchenmeister and Barbara Kuchenmeister, both of Poughkeepsie; her grandson Matthew Fluck and his wife Erin of Manchester, NH; her granddaughter Jennifer Fluck of Beacon, NY; and three great-grandchildren, Liam, Barrett, and Sloane Fluck. She is also survived by her sister, Lois King Mowbray of Kernersville, NC and her brother, Frank C. King and his wife Sylvia, of Raleigh, NC, and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held at Timothy Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY on Thursday, August 7, from 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm. A graveside service will be held at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery 11 am on Friday, August 8. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or a charity of your choice.
