Obituary of Lillian Allers

On August 19, 2014, Lillian Magdalena (Catucci) Allers, 92, took the Hand of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and entered into eternal glory. Lillian, daughter of the late Maddalena and Giacomo Catucci, was a long-time resident of Poughkeepsie, NY, and recently resided in Naples, FL. For 55 years, Lillian was the beloved wife of the late Robert W. Allers. She was the devoted mother of six children, predeceased by Paula Allers and is survived by Robert and Martha Allers, Elizabeth (Allers) and Joseph Smith, Mark and Margaret Allers, Timothy and Patricia Allers, and Brian and Coleen Allers. She is also survived by six adored grandchildren, beloved sister and brother, Isabella (Catucci) Sciacca, and James Catucci, and several treasured nieces and nephews. Lillian was also predeceased by a sister Germinia Gahan and her four brother's Donald, Paul, John and Frank Catucci. Lillian, born and raised in Poughkeepsie, NY, was inspirational in her career accomplishments, breaking new ground early in her life as the first woman manager in a seamstress factory, later as a forerunner in day-care, and lastly, and most famously, for more than 25 years, as the lead cashier at Bradlees department store. Lillian will be remembered as a woman with an intense love and commitment to her family and to her faith. A devout Catholic, Lillian was a member of St. Martin de Porres Church in Poughkeepsie, NY and St. Williams Parish in Naples, FL. Her faith in Jesus Christ was paramount and the foundation for her life. But, most of all, Lillian was the loving, selfless, humble, perfect Mom. She tirelessly and passionately raised her children as well as children who belonged to others. Her abundant love and giving heart knew no boundaries. She was also very proud of her Italian heritage and shared all of its traditions with her phenomenal cooking. Every Sunday, Lillian prepared and served "Thanksgiving" dinner, for all who could join. It was her favorite day of the week. Lillian possessed a grace and joy we will always remember. If you wish to honor her memory, cook up a batch of spaghetti and meatballs and invite a crowd. And, don't forget to say 'Grace' before you eat! Calling hours are 5-8pm, Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Timothy Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY. A funeral Mass will be held 10:00am, Friday, September 5, 2014 at St. Martin de Porres Church, Cedar Valley Rd., Poughkeepsie. Burial will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Avenue, Poughkeepsie.
