Obituary of David Schreck

David Allen " Gooch" Schreck was called to our heavenly fathers service at home surrounded by loved ones on September 14, 2014. Born on July 17, 1953 in Poughkeepsie, New York he was the fifth child to the late Eileen and the late Martin Schreck. David was educated in the Spackenkill and Poughkeepsie Schools districts. He played varsity football for the Poughkeepsie Pioneers, wearing #75. David's astute electrical knowledge began under the guidance of his grandfather and father and was respected by all near and far. David was extremely proud to have stand-by generator customers throughout Southeastern NY and the surrounding area who he treated all with importance second to none. He also built much of the electrical testing and rigging equipment at the shop. Throughout David's adult life, he was a first responder who found the endless benefits of helping those in need. David was a member of the Arlington Fire District at Croft Corners Fire Department and a member of the Hyde Park Fire Department were he was the Past Asst. Chief. All of David's First Responder Brethren are welcome. David worked for H.A. Schreck Inc. for 45 years and served as Company President before his retirement. Anyone who knew David understood his love for various lakes and wooded areas he found along life's journey. Additionally, he spoke often about his fondness of the Red Lion Mountain in Stockbridge Mass., and affectionately referred to as his second home. David's multitude of dear friends are too vast to mention but included Eddie Tucholski, Chris Collen and the one and only Linda Wiber, who our family will be forever indebted. David's children were the reason he fought through countless procedures. He took great pride in showing them the beauty of the N.E. David enjoyed gin and tonics with friends and family. His love for country music was common knowledge, but if you asked him for a song it would be Harry Chapin without a doubt. His sense of humor had a mind of its own, just ask Bobby Hacket. The Schreck family can't possibly thank all the caregivers who helped David but please know that your efforts are remembered and we remain forever grateful. Loving survivors include his wife, Tina Marie; and his daughter, Sarah Ann; and son, David Edward from his previous marriage to Margaret Van Leuven. David is also survived by his siblings, Martin Jr., Mary Vona, Henry, Robert, Samuel, stepdaughters Sierra Mahoney, Elizabeth Mahoney; and his dog, Lucy and granddog, Sophie. David was predeceased by two infant brothers and his brother, Thomas. Calling Hours will be held Monday, September 22, 2014 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, New York 12603. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday September 23, 2014 11am at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Mansion Street Poughkeepsie, New York.
