Obituary of Benjamin Shirley
Benjamin Lawrence Shirley passed away peacefully at home on Monday November, 3rd. Benji was born on Tuesday, July 8th at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 9lb 8oz at birth and grew into a strong, healthy and vibrant young boy. He developed quickly, learning language and communication skills beyond his age. He was heard to say "Hi," and "I love you," many times as his first words. Benjamin's smile lit the world and brought joy and happiness to everyone who witnessed his charisma in public, in church, shopping at Adams and everywhere he visited. He was inspiration for all that is good in life and will never be forgotten.
Benjamin is survived by his mother, Angela Adams and his father, Lawrence Shirley.
On his father side's he is survived by his grandmother Elizabeth Shirley, and his great-grandmother Elizabeth Leary. Benjamin's godfather, "Uncle Stevie," cared for him every day and loved him as his own. Ben is also survived by his Aunt AnnMarie, Uncle Kraig, cousins Karson and Kami along with his Aunt Liz, Uncle Gabe, cousins Joseph, Lizzie, Gabriella, and many other loving relatives.
On his mother's side, he is survived by his grandfather John Adams, Uncle Jamie, Uncle Shawn, Aunt Theresa, cousins Brooklyn and Jonah, and great-grandparents, Ralph and Doris Adams, and many other loving relatives. He was predeceased by his grandmother Melody Adams.
In Benjamin's short time with us, he visited many places such as Hunter Mountain, Burlington, Vermont, Saratoga Raceway, HITS in Saugerties, and Norwalk, Connecticut. He spread joy and elation to everyone he met. He will be missed tremendously and loved forever.
Donations in Benjamin's honor will be accepted with gratitude to The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie.
Calling hours are Saturday November 8, 2014 from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York, 12603. A Mass of the Angels will be Celebrated 1pm Sunday November 9, 2014 at Regina Coeli Church Route 9 Hyde Park, New York. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
