Obituary of Albert Prisco
Albert J. Prisco 80, of the City of Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully on Monday November 17, 2014 in Poughkeepsie, New York surrounded in love by his family. Like the Marine he always was, he fought a courageous battle with the enemy that ultimately led to his demise.
Born in Port Jervis New York on February 27, 1934, he was the first born son of the late Juanita Clark. Al has been a local resident of Dutchess County most of his life with his youth spent in the village of Wappinger Falls where he swam and fished with the neighborhood children in Wappingers Lake. He attended St. Mary's School in Wappinger Falls and then finished his education at Poughkeepsie High School. Soon after graduating he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. with the rank of Sergeant during the Korean Conflict.
On November 6, 1955 at St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie, Al married Lorraine M. Heinze, she survives at home.
For 45 years, Al enjoyed his employment with Montgomery Ward in Poughkeepsie as the Shipping and Receiving Manager, retiring in 2002. His second and probably most fulfilling career was being the daycare provider for his grandchildren. His days were spent doting on the true joys of his life, Nick, Sophia, Dean and Alex.
Al was a member of St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie where he was actively involved in coaching his son's basketball team. He was a lifelong member of Twin Lakes Sportsman Association where he was a past President.
His love of food led to his love of cooking and he touched the lives of many of those who had the pleasure of enjoying the banquets he prepared for Twin Lakes as their chef and events coordinator.
Al was a passionate man, who was a devoted Yankee and Giant fan, enjoying the play by play discussions that followed each game with his grandson, Dean.
He was a very proud man who loved his family more than anything that life had to offer him. For Al the act of living was about being the best provider that he could be. His family would never want for anything as long as he was around, and his love for them showed through his actions over the years.
One of his greatest joys was the celebration of each family members' birthday at his favorite restaurant , Gino's in Wappinger Falls.
Al is survived by his wife, Lorraine M. Prisco of Poughkeepsie, NY., who together with the family in attendance joyously celebrated 59 years of marriage two weeks ago. Al was extremely loving and proud of his three children, daughter Michelle Prisco of Poughkeepsie, NY., daughter Renee Mavros and her husband Nikolaos of Hopewell Junction, son Joseph Prisco of Poughkeepsie. Also known as PaPa to his four grandchildren, Nicholas and Sophia Prisco, Dean and Alexander Mavros. Also surviving Al are his two sisters, Marie Demboski of Pleasant Valley, Eleanor Creighton of Poughkeepsie and a brother Michael Mirras of Colorado along with several nephews.
