Obituary of Elizabeth DeFiglio

Elizabeth M. " Betty " DeFiglio, 99, a lifelong resident of the City of Poughkeepsie, died Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Baptist Home in Rhinebeck, NY. Mrs. DeFiglio was a laundress at Vassar College and also worked for the Homestead (IBM) for ten years. She retired in 1977. Betty was known as making the best meatballs in Town. She was a parishioner of Mt. Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie, NY and also belonged to the St. Rita's Society of the Church and the St. Ann's Society. On January 31, 1912, she was born in Poughkeepsie to John and Susan DuBraski. She married Gerard (Charlie) DeFiglio on June 26, 1938 at St. John the Baptist Church in Poughkeepsie and he predeceased her in 2001. Mr. DeFiglio is survived by a daughter, Carol Walker of Poughkeepsie, a son and daughter-in-law Gerard and Beth DeFiglio, Jr.of Poughkeepsie, a son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Kathy DeFiglio of Poughkeepsie and five grandchildren: Katie DeFiglio, Kristy DeFiglio, Mary Stickley, Jerry Walker and Karen Spencer. Additionally, she is survived by several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her two sisters Margaret Trojan and Mildred Zehnacker. In addition to her husband who predeceased her, she was also predeceased by two brothers John and Joe Dubraski and her sister Helen Such. Calling hours will be held on Friday January 2, 2015 from 9am to 11am at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Poughkeepsie, New York. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery Poughkeepsie, New York.
