Obituary of John G. Lembesis

John G. Lembesis, age 83, of Pleasant Valley, NY, died peacefully surrounded by his family on March 12, 2015. Born on September 26, 1931, in Vresthena, Greece, he was the son of George J. and Giannoula Mavrias Lembesis. John immigrated to the United States in September, 1951, to Albany, NY, then relocated to Poughkeepsie. He earned an associate's degree in engineering from Hudson Valley Technical Institute in Troy, NY. He worked for IBM for 39 years as an engineering designer. John was a very active member of the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church of Poughkeepsie, as well as a member and past president of the Order of AHEPA. He volunteered to work at both the church Greek festival and the Dutchess County Fair church booth annually, and was instrumental in starting the gyro concession. He worked tirelessly for the church and supported all its endeavors. He was also a member of the Shekomeko Masonic Lodge #458 of Pleasant Valley. John was a kind-hearted, caring, and loving man, always willing to lend a helping hand to friend or stranger. He had many skills, hobbies, and interests, including clock and watch repair, woodworking, metal working, and drafting. He was always designing, building, or repairing something. He loved his adopted country, and was very grateful for the opportunity to raise a family here. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Voula Blathras Lembesis, who passed away on May 20, 1984, with whom he had three children, and his sister Eleni Meletis. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Florence Lembesis; son and daughter-in-law George J. and Maurine Lembesis; son Peter J. Lembesis; son and daughter-in-law Anthony J. and Stacey Lembesis; most cherished granddaughter Chloe Lembesis; nephew and niece Anastasios and Maria Meletis; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and godchildren. He leaves a big void in all of our lives and will be deeply missed. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 18,2015 from 4pm to 8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie.New York. Greek Orthodox prayer service will be held at 6pm, AHEPA service at 7pm, and Masonic service at 7:30pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 11am at the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 S. Grand Ave., Poughkeepsie. Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetary.
