Obituary of Dallas Carpenter
Dallas Carpenter, a lifelong area resident, died on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, with his family by his side. He was 78 years old.
Born in Poughkeepsie on March 24, 1937, he was the son of Dallas W. Carpenter and Mary Sculco Madaras. He attended Poughkeepsie schools. Dallas was a laborer with Local 1000, and worked on the construction of Poughkeepsie's Main Mall. He worked for the Culinary Institute of America for 25 years, beginning as a maintenance worker and retiring as Supervisor of the Maintenance Department in 2008. Dallas enjoyed fishing in Canada, at Copake Lake and Brown's Pond, playing softball, cards, shooting pool and bowling. In his later years, his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters, Colleen Misner and her husband Scott of LaGrangeville, Laura Carpenter North and her husband James of Highland, Melissa Bishop and her companion, Shawn Graybill, of Hyde Park. He is also survived by his former wife, Georgia Carpenter who was by his side with his daughters when he died, and his grandchildren, Elisabeth Misner, Angela and Christopher North, and Wade and Savannah Bishop, In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Stephen Carpenter, in 1992. Our grief at his passing is lessened by our certainty of his happiness at being reunited with his son in Heaven.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2015 from 2:00 - 6:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 13th at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Tyler Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
