Obituary of Charlotte Pike
Charlotte T. Pike, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, at River Valley Care Center in Poughkeepsie, NY after a long illness.
Charlotte was a treasure sent from above for everyone who knew her. She raised seven children of her own and her son Stephen's two children upon his untimely death in 1969, but she was everybody's mom. With nine children she always had a house full and everyone who came into her home considered her their mom too and called her just that! She never turned anyone away who needed a place to stay or something to eat. She and her husband Raymond always put the needs of others above their own and both were beloved by all.
Charlotte was a stay at home mom with many talents. In spite of raising nine children, she somehow found time to knit and sew many beautiful things, including clothing for her children and even their dolls, afghans and other items that will be cherished forever just like the many memories she created. She was an expert in candy and cake making and decorating and made many of the family's wedding and special occasion cakes as well as fun chocolate creations and sugar egg scenes for Easter. She married the love of her life Raymond Pike on February 4, 1945 and they were married over 65 years until his death in 2010.
Charlotte was predeceased by her son Stephen, husband Raymond and sister, Loretta Patton. She is survived by her son Charles and wife Donna of Earlton, NY, her daughter Susan Pike of Wappingers Falls, NY, her son Thomas of Hyde Park, NY, her son John and wife Peggy of Red Hook, NY, her daughter Carol Versace of Poughkeepsie, NY and her boyfriend Jeff, her daughter Ann Pallone of Poughkeepsie, NY and her fiancé Jason, her sister Gertrude Nelson of California, and her brothers Albert Grosenbeck of Tennessee and James Grosenbeck and his wife Patricia of New Hampshire. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many in-laws, nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.
Charlotte was more than just a wife/mom/grandma, she was a best friend and confidant and she always knew just what to say or do to make everything "all better". She would do anything for her loved ones and we will all sorely miss and love her until we meet again one day.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the River Valley Care Center for their dedication and loving care of Charlotte for the past year and especially the last few months.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 3rd, from 4 to 8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, NY. The funeral will be Thursday, June 4th, at 10am at the funeral home with graveside services immediately after at St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
