Obituary of Eleonora Granda
Beloved wife and mother, Eleonora Granda passed away on June 9, 2015 at The Pines at Poughkeepsie after a long illness.
Born in Latvia on April 16, 1939, Eleonora emigrated to the United States with her family in 1949 and settled in Erie, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University in with a bachelor's degree in 1962 and achieved a Masters of Education from SUNY New Paltz in 1978 . She taught for 37 years, and many of those years were spent at the Samuel FB Morse School in the City of Poughkeepsie. Eleonora never just taught classes of children - she saw each child as an individual. Her guiding principle was that every student was capable of excellence and her job as a teacher was to help them achieve that.
On July 10, 1965 Eleonora married Joseph E. Granda at St. Ann's Church in Jersey City, New Jersey. They loved, honored and cherished each other every day of their almost 50 year union.
Eleonora loved traveling, scrapbooking, fine dining and a good glass of wine. She was a member of the Germania Club, a proud member of the New York State United Teachers Union and a communicant at St. Martin de Porres Church. She adored her only grandson, Nathan Victor Granda Lonstein and surely would have inspired him to live life boldly and independently just as she inspired her son and daughter.
In addition to her husband, Eleonora is survived by her son Joseph Z. Granda, daughter-in-law, Karan Granda, daughter Maria A. Granda, son-in-law Ross Lonstein and grandson Nathan. She is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews (1 in Russia, 6 in Texas) 2 brothers-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law.
Eleonora was predeceased by her mother and father, Wilhelm and Maria Sauers as well as her brother and sister.
