Obituary of John Donnelly
John T. "Jack" Donnelly, 79, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, June 29, 2015, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Montrose, New York, after an extended illness. Jack is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Nancy McKay Donnelly, of Poughkeepsie, New York; his son Bill Donnelly of Centreville, Virginia, and his wife Bonnie; and his daughter Susan Donnelly-Feduke of Poughkeepsie, New York; his well-loved grandchildren Hannah and Hunter Feduke and Owen and Keira Donnelly; and his brother Vincent Donnelly and his wife Barbara, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jack was born to James Donnelly and Ursula McDermott Donnelly in the Bronx in April 1936, the youngest of four brothers. After high school he served in the United States Navy and with life-long friend John Gill opened a delicatessen, which he operated until the early 1970's. After relocating to the Poughkeepsie area, Jack worked in sales for many years until retiring from a management position with Lonestar Industries. Retirement did not last, however, and he soon returned to work with the US Postal Service in Fishkill, New York, until retiring for good in 2001.
After his retirement, Jack loved nothing better than to spend time with his grandchildren, leading baseball games and tea parties with equal aplomb. He was devoted to his family and friends.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass celebrating his life will be held at 10 AM on Friday, July 3, 2015, at St. Martin de Porres Church, Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie.
