Myrta J. Ugarte died at the age of 65 on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. The daughter of Juan F. Ugarte and Maria Upitis, she was born and raised in Callao, Peru. Since childhood, she was recognized by her talented soprano voice, her brilliant intellect, strong character and commitment to assist others. She was the lead singer at her school chorus and a stellar student. After her high school graduation, based on merit, she was granted full scholarships to The National Conservatory of Music and to San Marcos National University. Ms. Ugarte graduated magna cum laude with a Master of Science in Social Work from San Marcos National University in Lima, Peru. On March 27, 1974 she married Mining Engineer Celso Camac. Fruit of their marriage are their children, Tatiana and Leonardo (Manuel). She raised her two children in Peru while leading a clinical team as a Social Worker for the Department of Health and Human Services. During the height of political turmoil in Peru she sought a better life for her children in America. Ms. Ugarte became a proud American citizen and has resided in the Hudson Valley since 1992. Her commitment to the field of social work led her to a decade of service as the Latino Outreach Coordinator for Domestic Violence Services of Dutchess County parallel to her 18 years of service to the aging at Valley Vista Adult Home. She was a devoted Catholic. Ms. Ugarte enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving and generous daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, cousin, aunt and friend. She was a valued and respected employee. Ms. Ugarte had a sophisticated taste for classical music and the opera while embracing an eclectic musical appreciation. Ms. Ugarte took pleasure in composing songs and writing poems. She had a refined palate and enjoyed fine dining. Ms. Ugarte appreciated traveling and vacationing with her children and grandsons. She prided upon the scribbles and early writings of her grandsons as much as in the educational and professional accomplishments of her children in the fields of Education, Engineering, and Finance respectively. Ms. Ugarte is described by those who knew her as extremely kind, loving, talented singer with an energizing spirit and an impeccable work ethic. She battled cancer with fierce strength and dignity, not allowing it to disturb her calling to serve others and stand strong in her position that all patients should never accept mediocre medical attention or care.
