Obituary of Dorothy Dougherty

Dorothy M. Dougherty, age 95, of Raleigh, NC, formally of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at the Universal Healthcare facility in North Raleigh, NC. Dorothy was born January 8, 1920 in Cheshire, Conn. She was the daughter of the late George and Alice Violet (Stevens) Turner. On April 4, 1942 at the Hedding Methodist Church in Poughkeepsie, NY, Dorothy married Robert Dougherty, who predeceased her on March 31, 2015. She was employed by the NY Telephone Company in Poughkeepsie, NY for over 30 years before retiring in 1983. She was a member of the NY Telephone Pioneers. She is survived by a daughter Marion Hewitt and her husband Robert of Raleigh, NC, grandsons; Gus and wife Beth of Raleigh, NC., Robert of Raleigh, NC, Jason and great-grandson Swayer of Poughkeepsie, NY; granddaughter Mari Connelly and her husband Jim of Portland, Oregon and their family. She is also survived by a son Robert B. Dougherty of East Fishkill, NY; grandson Shane of Chicago, Ill: granddaughter Aubrey and great-grandson Aiden of Poughkeepsie, NY. Also surviving her is a sister in-law, Thelma Turner of Hopewell Junction, NY; and three nephews, Tommy, Lee, Donnie... A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, located at 342 South Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY.
