Obituary of Bruce Cunningham

Bruce A. Cunningham, age 59, of LaGrange, NY died Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY after a four-year courageous battle with lung cancer. Bruce was born June 7, 1956 in Hudson, NY. He is the son of the late Malvern H. Cunningham and Joyce E. (Cohen) Cunningham. He married Julie A. Guerrette on September 8, 1984 at St. Mary's Church Wappingers Falls, NY. Bruce was a member of Roger's Point Boat Club, Poughkeepsie Elks BPOE #275, LaGrange Rotary, and the National Roofing Association. Bruce was a lifelong area resident. He was a Graduate of Roosevelt High School Class of 1975. Bruce was the owner of Bruce Cunningham Inc., DBA Cunningham Roofing, and Guylynn LLC. He also received the Firestone Building Products Master Contractor Award. Bruce loved boating, golf, traveling to the Caribbean, and spending time at his retirement home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with family and friends. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife: Julie A. (Guerrette) Cunningham of LaGrange, NY, daughter: Ashley L. Cunningham of LaGrange, NY, son: Justin G. Cunningham of New York, NY; his mother Joyce E. (Cohen) Cunningham of Poughkeepsie, NY; sister: Noreen McDonald and her husband Bruce of Ulster Park, NY; two brothers: Gary Cunningham and his wife Hilda of Deltona, FL, Malvern Cunningham of Poughkeepsie, NY, and several nieces and nephews, especially Christy McDonald whose love and support are greatly appreciated. Bruce was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle who always wanted the best for his family. His loyalty and dedication to his family was admirable, and his drive and determination never went without notice, along with his great sense of humor. Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 4pm to 8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. The funeral will be held 10:30 am on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY and burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery Salt Point Turnpike, Poughkeepsie, NY.
